About Us

The Wellington Food Fair has over the last ten years been the most obvious output of the Wellington Food Town initiative. The fair has developed from small beginnings, through a variety of locations and dates before settling in the town centre on the first Saturday in September.

With the support of many volunteers and local community organisations the small Food Town Committee led by Donna Munson has built the fair to become a highlight of the Wellington calendar attracting thousands of residents and visitors to sample the wonderful produce provided by stallholders from all over the South West.

As well as a wide range of stalls the fair has provided entertainment for both children and adults with open mic sessions, bouncy castles, face painters and strolling players. In recent years’ local and celebrity chefs including Leslie Waters and Jean-Christopher Novelli have made appearances at the demonstration kitchen.

In 2016 the committee decided that they felt that they had taken the food town concept as far as they could and had therefore decided to stand down to allow a new team with fresh ideas to take it on to the next level.

As a result the Food Town Committee is delighted to announce their appointment of Beverley and Sarah Milner Simonds. With the initial support from the outgoing committee they took over in late Spring and worked hard to ensure the 2016 Food Fair went ahead seamlessly.

Beverley and Sarah have run the demo kitchen at the last 2014 & 15 fairs and are the driving force behind the awarding winning Burnham on Sea Food & Drink Festival. That festival has a very similar ethos and feel as Wellington Food Fair, and many of the traders are the same. Their first aim was to meet with the community groups and the many volunteers who have been vital to the event’s success and listen to them.

“Wellington Food Fair is a great event and we are looking forward to working with many familiar traders, the committed group of volunteers, community groups and the Wellington town centre businesses to continue the festival in the style and manner that you have come to expect.”

“We have worked alongside the committee, organising and compering the demo stage in the Scout Hall. We know what a well-loved and well-run event this is and we will be working hard to protect that reputation. We know that there is a huge interest in the brilliant food and drink producers who feature in the Fair and the areas rich food culture is worthy of future celebrations.”
